The Future Mundaring conversation is underway

Project Overview

Thousands of people have already been exploring Future Mundaring and thinking about what the future of the Shire could look like.

Since Future Mundaring launched, the online hub has recorded more than 22,600 visits from over 10,000 unique visitors, with almost 16,000 views of the Future Mundaring homepage. Future Mundaring content has also generated around 16,600 views on Facebook.

And the conversation is starting to tell us something about what people value, what they want to protect and where they think we should be heading.

What we’re hearing so far

Some strong themes are starting to emerge.

Our natural environment is a big part of what people value about Mundaring. We’re hearing about the importance of protecting bushland, biodiversity, wildlife, waterways and tree canopy, and making sure these remain part of the Shire’s future.

The character of our different places matters. People are talking about peaceful, natural and scenic surroundings, village and rural character, heritage and the things that give individual communities their own identity.

Getting around is another recurring theme. Walking and trails are particularly important, alongside better connections for cycling, public transport and other ways of moving around the Shire.

There’s also a strong interest in thriving local communities. We’re hearing about supporting local businesses, creating welcoming neighbourhood centres, bringing people together through events and community spaces, and making sure our towns and villages remain great places to spend time.

Looking further ahead, people are asking us to think about how we protect the things that make Mundaring special while preparing thoughtfully for change. Nature and bushland, resilience, recreation and open space, waterways, local economies, movement and sustainable growth are all part of that conversation.

These are early themes, and there is plenty more we want to understand.

What are we missing?

Maybe these things matter to you too. Maybe your priorities are completely different.

Either way, we want to hear them.

What do you value about living here? What should we protect? What needs more attention? And what should Mundaring be like in 10 years and beyond?

The Future Mundaring survey is still open, so now is the time to add your voice.

Have your say

This is just the beginning

Future Mundaring isn’t a one-off survey. It’s a conversation that will continue over the coming years as we work through the plans, strategies and decisions that will shape Mundaring’s future.

And we’re deliberately starting broad.

Right now: the big picture

We’re talking about the Shire of Mundaring as a whole.

What do we value? What should we protect? What needs attention? What kind of place do we want Mundaring to be in the future?

Next: closer to home

The conversation will become more local.

We’ll look more closely at our different localities, what makes them distinctive and the priorities and opportunities that matter in different parts of the Shire.

Later: at your place

As the planning work becomes more detailed, the conversation will too.

There will be opportunities to talk about land use, future planning and what that could mean for individual properties.

What you tell us now helps shape what comes next

You don’t need to wait until the conversation reaches your locality or your property.

The big-picture conversation happening now will help shape the more detailed conversations that follow.

So if something matters to you, tell us now!
