Signage Strategy Style Guide

Project Overview

The Shire has developed a draft signage strategy to inform the future design of Shire signage across the District.

As part of the draft strategy a proposed style guide, including materials and colour palette was also developed. Colours and textures found in the local environment have been used as an inspiration for this style guide.

There is an identified need for overarching branding for the district supported by a style guide. This brand will be reflected in a range of Shire of Mundaring projects such as signage used within the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, facility signage, light industrial and commercial precincts, wayfinding and in the development of entry statements into the Shire and Mundaring town centre

We are now seeking your feedback on the proposed style guide to ensure the materials and colours suggested are reflective of the aspirations of the community and they create a positive sense of identity for Shire of Mundaring.

In January 2023 the Shire undertook a Request for Quote (RFQ) process seeking a consultant to develop a comprehensive Signage Strategy, including undertaking targeted stakeholder consultation and desktop research and analysis to inform the development of the strategy. Local signage company, Signs and Lines, were appointed to undertake this work. The intent of the Strategy is to guide development of well designed, fit for purpose and consistent signage that creates a positive sense of identity for Shire of Mundaring.

The objectives of this project are:

  • To create a cohesive and uniform signage strategy that informs key projects across the Shire
  • To support and promote the Shire’s brand identity and a clear sense of place
  • To establish guidelines and a style guide that ensure Shire signage is high quality, fit for purpose, appropriately designed and in line with community aspirations.

The need to develop a comprehensive signage strategy across Shire of Mundaring has been raised via the Shire’s Cultural Advisory Group, with signage also cited as lacking in the Age Friendly Informing Strategy 2020 – 2025. Signage is also referenced in various precinct plans, strategies and tourism documents.

The current approach to signage is ad hoc and lacks coordination with no clear guidelines on the various types or style of signage used across the shire.
