A draft Economic Development and Tourism Informing Strategy (Strategy) has been prepared and was open for public comment on the content for four weeks in May 2023. Submissions made to Shire of Mundaring have been considered and where practicable the draft Strategy has been modified.
The draft Strategy is scheduled to go to the Ordinary Council Meeting on 13 June for adoption. Once adopted, the Shire will commence implementation of the recommended actions that are detailed within the Strategy.
Shire of Mundaring had in place an adopted Economic Development Strategy in 2009 and a Tourism Informing Strategy 2013 - 2017 (please see Related Documents). In recognition of their role to enable and support local business and tourism, Council have budgeted for preparation of and Economic Development and Tourism Informing Strategy which is scheduled for completion in April 2023.
To assist the Shire in preparation of this strategy a Strategy Reference Group (SRG) was formed in late 2021 which is comprised of local business, enterprise and tourism representatives. The Group also has representatives of the Mundaring and Swan Chambers of Commerce respectively. The feedback from this Group has been utilised to inform a Consultant engaged by the Shire in August 2022 to provide assistance and expertise in preparation of this important Strategy.
In early October a survey was open to all for participation and it received a strong response. The results will be utilsed to further inform the content of the draft Strategy. It is anticipated the draft Strategy will be available for public review early in 2023 and any feedback or comments will be considered prior to Council adoption of the final Strategy in June 2023.
